How to read these photographs
Photographs are useful, but they can mislead if you do not know what to look for. These notes describe what each group of images shows and what a buyer can and cannot tell from it.
- Loose leaf piles. You can judge the general colour range and whether the leaf looks clean. You cannot judge moisture or aroma from a photograph.
- Hand-stemmed leaf laid flat. You can see lamina size and whether midrib remnants remain. It is a good way to compare strip size.
- Scraps. You can see the size range and how much dust there seems to be.
- Baled and boxed leaf. You can see how the leaf is packed and stacked and how the packages are tied, labelled and weighed.
- Lot photographs. These show leaf as it sits in a store or on a tarpaulin. Light and camera quality change colour, so treat them as indicative.
Watermarks
Some of our photographs carry a JKTabak mark across the image. It is a label on the picture and says nothing about the leaf.

Photographs on a website do not show today’s stock. If you are interested in a lot, ask us and we will send current photographs of it, and a sample if you want to test it.
